7:00 p.m. - Social time and Artist of the month selection.  You may bring in 2 pieces for judging for July and August.

7:30 p.m. - Short business meeting

PROGRAM: Syracuse University Graduate, Jeff Mann, will be an Artist In Residence at RACC.  Jeff is interested in all things automotive.  He will present a Tire Tread Printing workshop at our July meeting.  Bring a tee shirt on which to print your design at this meeting and remember no more than 3 colors.  You can see his work at www.Jeffmannart.com You might want to bring a smock.

Board of Directors Meeting: will be held Thursday, July 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the RACC.

Our June Meeting: was our annual reception for the elementary school students who were selected as Artist of teh Month at Gansevoort, Denti and Ridge Mills.  Many thanks to Marsha Petrie who worked with art teachers Cynthia Gurski, Miranda Knapp and Mary Kernan.  The student work was displayed in Gallery 2 at RACC.  They received ribbons and had refreshments provided by the RACC.  Brenda Antonowicz, Pat Besl, Marsha Petrie, Richard and Jean Vollmer were judges throughout the year.  Our Scholarship Committee, Sue Davidson (chair), Dan Bertrand and Marsha Petrie selected this years winners.  Helen Waterman, First Place, will be attending Pratt MWPAI; Second Place Paul Trela plans to attend Mohawk Valley Community College; Dani Bertrand received Third Place and she will be attending Pratt MWPAI. Our scholarship winners presented their portfolios and discussed their work.  You will find photos on our website www.romeartassociation.com

Congratulations to Jane Taylor who has been inducted into the Rome Arts Hall of Fame.  Jane also received Best of Show at the American Sumi-e Society Exhibition in Virginia. Kudos to our members winning awards at the RACC Regional Exhibit.  Tom Besl - First Place; Wini Lynford Kulesa - Second Place; Gary Price and Lynn Reichart - Honorable Mention; Jane Taylor - Board of Directors Award; Tom Besl and Karry Fuller Comfort - Special Awards. Also exhibiting in this juried show were: Diane Berry, Pat Besl, Kristie Boisen, Alice Dennis, Sandra Devisser and Johanna Zeszutko.

RAA Annual Membership Exhibition

Rome Art Association Annual Membership Exhibition
2011 Judge: Anthony Rabasca
Exhibit Dates: August 5 through 31, 2001
Drop off date: July 28 from 3 to 6 p.m.

RULES FOR ENTRY:

1. All entrants must be RAA members in good standing for the current
year. New members and those who need to renew membership are welcome
to join prior to registration.

2. Categories to be judged: Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic, Pastel, Mixed
Media, Sculpture, Graphics, Photography including Digital Art and
Crafts. Ribbons will be awarded.

3. All work must be original. Images copied from magazines, postcards,
greeting cards, books, calendars, the internet, etc. will not be
accepted or judged. Traditional craft patterns may be used, but not
commercially bought kits, molds and pre-assembled pieces.

4. Entries must be dry, framed and ready to hang. Wrap around canvases
need not be framed if the edges are painted. Masking tape, clip frames
and saw tooth hangers will not be accepted.

5. The size of the work is limited to 48 inches overall, including the
frame. Diptychs and triptychs must be physically attached to be
considered one piece.

6. Work must have been completed within the past three years.

7. Entries must not have been exhibited in previous RAA Membership
shows.

8. Each member is allowed a total of four entries, with a maximum of 2
works in each category.

9. The entry fee is $10 for the first piece, $5 for additional pieces.

10. A 30% commission is charged for the RAAC on all work sold from the
exhibit. Artists assume the responsibility for packaging and mailing
work sold.

11. The Rome Art Association and the Rome Art and Community Center do
not assume responsibility or liability for work in transit.

12. All work must remain until the end of the exhibit.

Scholarship Winners 2011

Gathering at the Rome Art and Community Center, the Rome Art Association recently honored young Artists of the Month from across the Rome City School District and presented scholarship awards to three graduating seniors who plan to continue their studies in the field of art. After these awards the scholarship winners presented their portfolios and talked about their art work and their dreams for the future.

Scholarlship Awards were presented to seniors as follows:
First Place:

Second Place:
       Paul Trela
            Planning to attend Mohawk Valley Community College
Third Place:
       Dani Bertrand
            Planning to attend Pratt MWPAI

Their teachers at RFA are Megan Anderegg, Ann Duran, Sybil Preski, and Amy VanMeter.
The Rome Art Association Scholarship Chairperson is Susan Davidson.

News from Gary & Sarah Price

Gary and Sarah Price have both been accepted into the Cooperstown Art Association's National Exhibition.  This year there were 471 entires and 103 works were accepted.  The 76th Annual Show will run from July 15 through August 19 in Galleries A, B and C at the CAA, 22 Main Street, Cooperstown, NY.
